How to Post Images on Your Blog
Posting pics on your blog is actually easy. Once you're logged in to your editing menu, click the UPLOAD FILE button on the left. a window will pop up. You'll need to:
1. Choose a file. Select the photo you want to upload.
2. Choose a destination. You'll want to make sure < Local Archive Path > is selected, and then type the word "images" (without the quote marks) into the box next to it. Then, click the UPLOAD button.
After the file has been uploaded, you'll see a new page that says "Your file has been uploaded. Size: (a number) bytes."
You have a couple of options here. You can either "Create a new entry using this uploaded file" or you can select "Show me the HTML."
If you're in a hurry and you'll only need one image in your blog entry, you may want to choose the option "create a new entry using your uploaded file." This will insert the necessary code into a new blog entry automatically.
If you choose the "Show me the HTML" option, you can copy and paste the HTML once it's displayed.
If you'd like for your image to be a pop-up image, you'll want to create a thumbnail for the image (a smaller image) by selecting the checkbox beneath "Image Thumbnail." Make sure that "Constrain proportions" is checked and type in either the width or height of the image. Constraining the proportions keeps your image from being disproportionate.
At the bottom of the page, you'll see two buttons. One of them is labeled "POPUP IMAGE," and the other is labeled "EMBEDDED IMAGE." Choose the appropriate one for your purposes.
NOTE: There is a 2MB maximum upload limit. (added 6/2/05)

Thanks so much for this blog! I've been studying CSS and now I am focusing on Movable Type -- this is great! Thank you, too, for all the hard work ya'll do!

When I upload my picture, I am told it is too large. Any ideas?

If you're trying to upload a gigantic raw (unedited) image from a digital camera, there's a chance it may be too big (we'll search and figure out what the exact limit is and post it here soon). I'd recommend that you use image-editing software to make the image a little smaller. For a TerraBlog I'd size it somewhere around 700 pixels wide at maximum if it's a pop-up (and use a smaller thumbnail, of course). If it's an embedded image you'll probably want to make it smaller than that. Do you have any sort of software that can resize images?

Leda, there is now a 2MB maximum upload limit. Previously, it was 1MB, which is why your file could not be uploaded.

Thanks. I will give it a try.
