Just say no to comment spam
In our never-ending quest to make Terrablogs the best possible blogging service, we are trying something new in our efforts to combat comment spam. If you have tried to comment on a terrablog recently you will have noticed one extra step has been added to the commenting process. Now, rather than having your comment automatically posted to your favorite blog, you must verify that you are indeed a human attempting to comment, not some mindless bot blindly flooding our poor blogs with advertisements for your lastest poker pill, or whatever. Verification is simple. You only have to be smart enough to click the "Verify" button and your comment will go through without a hitch. We believe that our bloggers are smarter than the bots leaving spam and therefore real bloggers will be able to leave comments when bots will be too stupid to do so. (We hope that there are no hitches. If, however, you do notice a problem leave us a comment on this blog. Or, if that isn't working email us at info [at] terrablogs [dot] com).
Our goal is not to make your interaction with Terrablogs more difficult and less enjoyable, rather our goal is to make your interaction with Terrablogs easier and more enjoyable. We sincerely believe that the less spam that we all have to deal with the more enjoyable our corporate blogging experience can be. We hope that the slight inconvenience of clicking one extra button to make your comment will be far outweighed by the decrease in blogging litter that is strewn about by heartless, mindless comment spammers.

A worthy addition. Most excellent. Though I will say that I suffer from less and less spam as time goes on.

Ryan: We hope the amount of spam continues to decrease. We have done a number of things in the past to try and stem the tide, some with better results than others. I'm glad to know that our past efforts were not entirely futile.
Bobw: We're working on a way to make the verification page %22prettier%22 and hopefully to even allow for CSS coming from the posting blog's stylesheet. We'll keep you informed.
Mark: Stlouisblogs has been up and running for a couple of months and has been included in the links at the bottom of the domain front pages since it went live.
Stelmodad: Thanks for the heads up on the error message. I believe I caught it about the same time you did. It should be fixed now. Do let us know if you see any more problems.
Posted by: admin at October 13, 2005 3:00 PM
Bobw: The verification page should now pull the stylesheet from the "referring" blog, assuming that the stylesheet exists at yourblog.chattablogs.com/styles-site.css for the referring blog. (Or, yourblog.atlblogs.com/styles-site.css, or baltiblogs, etc.) You should be able to view the source of the verification page and determine the style elements that are available for you to define. If you would like a little more granularity on the style elements, let me know and I will add in a few more <div>'s

Is there a plugin or something to add the comment approval feature?
Posted by: Wondergirl at October 1, 2007 5:52 PM
Wondergirl: There is no comment approval feature for MT 2.6. However, SixApart is working on an open source version of MT 4 which we plan on switching to shortly after it is released. This will be a major upgrade for Terrablogs and will hopefully make things more enjoyable for our bloggers. This upgrade will include support for comment verification.
MT4OS was supposed to be released in the 3rd Quarter of this year, however it hasn't yet arrived. Once it is released we will begin the upgrade process. Within a few weeks of the release we hope to have all of Terrablogs switched over. We hope you can hold out until then.
