Trouble with Comments

It seems that our upgrade to MTOS 4.21 caused some trouble with comments. Many users were seeing the following error:

Invalid request: corrupt character data for character set UTF-8

when trying to post comments. I believe that we have resolved the issue. Comments should be functional again. Let us know if you see any more problems.

Our apologies for the comments you may have missed.

I have tried to add additional bloggers, but MT doesn't allow me to anymore. Am I limited to the number of co-bloggers allowed, or is this something that can be adjusted?

When I try to post comments to my own blog, it will not display my information (name, email, url) in the comment. It shows up as "Anonymous" or "Registered User" sometimes. What's up with that? Help! :)

Posted by: WonderGirl at November 21, 2008 10:48 AM

Yeah, the comment function still isn't working on The East Lake Voice blog. What's up with that? The blog doesn't provide an error message, but it just doesn't post my comments.

OK so I'm a complete loser. I don't know anything about blogs apparently, but I was finally going to update and get back into the habit, but everything looks different--MT upgrade--and I wanted to see if there was a way to just change colors or backgrounds and now the whole of my style is gone forever and I was wondering if there's any possible way to just get it back to the way it was three days ago. just plain. even if I lose my most recent entries. I don't care. please help. Thanks so much. Oriel

I am the owner of a copyrighted photoblog that is being run on Seattle Photoblogs without my knowledge or express written permission. apparently your organization aggregates material. Please contact me directly regarding who hijacked my feed. I don't recall ever signing up with this group and want an explanation. Thanks,

Do you still need help regarding some of the movable type functions you've found different than on the v3.x series?

Good also to notice that you've fixed the invalid request issue by updating the encoding on the 'Individual Entry Archive' template to utf-8 ;)

Let me know if you need any movable type assistance and I would be glad to help you

I would like to get my blog posted on the chattablogs site. However, when I pull up that site, the formatting is all very jumbled. I have tried to sign up, but it doesn't seem to work. I also can't figure out how to contact anyone associated with that website. Could you email me and help me out? Thanks.

Recently, I "rebuild" all of my pages in my blog and now my website is no longer viewable in Mozilla Firefox. It says:

Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

Please help? Many thanks.

Is there a specific page that isn't working in Firefox? A quick test of your site in Firefox didn't reveal any errors.

Posted by: admin at March 7, 2009 9:33 AM

Everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks.

I have a blog on bostonblogs.org and I am thinking of switching to wordpress. Wordpress says I can import a blog from Movable Type, but is mine from Movable Type or is it something else altogether?

Posted by: linnea at April 12, 2009 2:15 PM

All terrablogs are run by Movable Type.

How do you reset a password on chattablogs?

Posted by: grace at May 9, 2009 5:07 PM

Why do the comments on my old posts disappear after a while? This is driving me nuts! Please help!!

Posted by: WonderGirl at June 22, 2009 11:40 AM

WonderGirl: Can you give an example (url) of an entry that has missing comments? That information will help us find the cause.

Posted by: admin at June 22, 2009 10:03 PM

My April 22, 2008 post is where the comments stop. All the ones before that, no comments. Posts after that, they show up. Crazy???

Posted by: WonderGirl at June 24, 2009 11:28 AM

OOps, here's the specific url where the problem happens for the first time: http://thesift.atlblogs.com/archives/019564.html

Posted by: WonderGirl at June 24, 2009 11:35 AM

Your comments have returned. In your Individual Archive template you had a tag, surrounding your comments which was suppressing the display of comments on posts where commenting had been turned off. I moved this tag to simply suppress the comment form when comments have been turned off for a post. After rebuilding your individual archive pages you now have comments again.

Let us know if you have any more trouble.

I'm sorry, but I still don't see them? I've republished my files again and refreshed my page, just to be sure, but still not there? Am I supposed to do something else to it? Thank you again.

Posted by: WonderGirl at June 24, 2009 3:06 PM

Looking at the following urls: http://thesift.atlblogs.com/archives/019564.html, http://thesift.atlblogs.com/archives/019561.html and http://thesift.atlblogs.com/archives/019544.html. I'm seeing comments listed on each of those pages. Is there another url that you are looking at where you are expecting comments but not seeing them?

As a point of clarification, the form to make new comments is not displaying because each of these entries has the "Allow Comments" checkbox unchecked. If you are looking for that form you will need to reopen comments for each entry.

Posted by: admin at June 24, 2009 4:00 PM

Honestly, I don't mean to keep you tied up with this! So sorry! Okay, so I've been accessing those entries using the archive button at the top of my page-- this url-- http://thesift.atlblogs.com/archives/2008_04.html. I just go to the month/year, and pull it up. I still do not see the comments listed as I scroll down the month's worth of posts. However, I DO see it, once I click that individual entry, with those url's you listed- so that's great, thank you for that!! So, I guess all that's left is to fix the monthly category setting? Also, I cannot see where to enable comments for old posts, where is that?

Thanks a million!!

Posted by: WonderGirl at June 24, 2009 5:31 PM

Okay, I found the enable comments section, and I see that once I checked that and rebuilt it, the comments link shows up in the monthly archive. Is this what I need to do for all of them, if I want them to show up that way? Wowza!

Posted by: WonderGirl at June 24, 2009 5:35 PM

For some reason, the most recent posts on my blog do not have the option to post a comment. Also, the part of the post that usually references the number of comments is showing a "1" instead of the usual Comments (0). Any idea what the problem might be?

I checked other terrablogs and they seem to be having the same problem - is there a server issue?

I've tried several times to upgrade my template to Minima blue (3 columns). Each time I do, I end up with no template. Is there any way to get it to work?

Posted by: soccer dad at September 16, 2009 4:46 PM

Hey I was clearing out my blog and starting over, but I can't seem to find a way to delete some old archive pages from a previous version of MT that terrablogs was using.

the archives are in this format:

could someone please tell me how to delete them or please delete them for me? thanks.

I see that monroeblogs is down. Any plans to resurrect it? Dr Rob Maddox asked me if I knew anything. If it's down for good, could someone help him recover his old posts? See:
